Characteristics of Green anacondas

Anaconda or Eunectes Murinus, in scientific name, is a member of boa family. South America’s green anaconda is the largest snake in the world. Green anacondas can raise to more than 8.8 meters, weigh more than 227 kilograms, and measure more than 30 centimeters in diameter. Females are remarkably larger than males.

Other anaconda species are the yellow dark-spotted, and Bolivian varieties, yet all are smaller than the green anaconda. Green anacondas are normally a dark brown with large blinking black acnes running down their backs and smaller oval acnes with yellow centers along their sides.

They live in swamps, marshes and streams and can swim in the water better than slither slowly on land. Most of their hunting time is spent in the water and prey on a different type of animals including fish, tapirs, wild pigs, birds, caimans and capybaras.

This giant green anacondas normally live alone. Between April and May, the male anacondas seek out females for the chance to mate. More often, many males will pursue the same female. The breeding ball can exist up to 4 weeks. Green anacondas can live more than 10 years in the wild and can live up to 30 in captivity. Read more...
